Nestled in a sixty-year-old building in Hong Kong, this 1200 square-foot, four-bedroom flat has been reimagined for a young family of three. Owners, a couple with their spirited three-year-old daughter, desired to breathe new life into their childhood home, evolving it into a vibrant, contemporary sanctuary.

The heart of the transformation lies in reconfiguring the layout to feature an open kitchen, which brightens the entire space by expanding the living area. By removing the wall between the lounge and the study, we installed a sleek glass panel that seamlessly merges the two spaces, effortlessly mitigating the long, uninspiring corridor.

A warm, inviting ambiance was achieved with a cozy family room design, highlighted by light timber flooring and furniture. Walls painted in a soft, off-white tone elegantly avoid a stark, clinical aesthetic while maintaining the space’s brightness.

Flowing from entrance to TV wall, a gracefully curved cabinet links the kitchen, dining, and lounge areas. The micro cement base effortlessly integrates with the matching TV cabinet, ensuring a cohesive design narrative. For moments of culinary creativity, sliding glass panels can enclose the open kitchen, providing a functional solution during heavy cooking sessions.

Central to the design is the kitchen island, serving as a visual anchor and ideal breakfast gathering spot. Meanwhile, the master bedroom boasts opulence with a king-sized bed and a meticulously detailed five-meter-long wardrobe, adorned with slatted timber panels and architectural features enhancing the flat's sophisticated style.

This rejuvenated flat now beautifully balances nostalgia with modern living, offering a perfect haven for this young family to grow and thrive amidst the vibrancy of Hong Kong.
