THE QUAY, VSA

Light moves generously through The Quay, tracing the curve of its windows and drawing the surrounding landscape into the school day. Conceived as a place for gathering and conversation, the interior has the openness of a shared living room, with smaller moments of retreat held within its expansive plan.

Softly rounded seating forms loose clusters across a pale, patterned floor. Coral, blue and yellow bring energy to a foundation of quiet neutrals, giving the room warmth without competing with the view. Above, broad sculptural ceiling panels appear to float beneath the exposed services, their luminous organic shapes echoing the furniture below. Columns become part of the social landscape through circular seating and timber details, while planting introduces a living softness.

Along the glazing, individual seats and upholstered benches offer a quieter relationship with the horizon. Elsewhere, generous sofa groupings make space for an informal meeting or a conversation that gathers more voices. This balance continues into the adjoining passages, where daylight, planted edges and integrated seating give movement through the building its own moments of pause.

MAD Studio’s commercial interior design approach connects these experiences through a consistent language of curves, tactile finishes and light. The Quay feels composed yet open to occupation: a place where school life can spread out, briefly slow down, and find a different perspective.
