VICTORIA KINDERGARTEN, GUMEI

A little village of books, colour and familiar shapes unfolds at Victoria Kindergarten in Gumei. MAD Studio’s kindergarten interior design builds a welcoming world through the simple outline of a house, a motif that moves from the reception into reading corners, shelving and the spaces between classrooms.

Timber textures give the interior a warm, tactile foundation. Against this background, generous touches of yellow introduce a sunny optimism, while greenery softens the transition from arrival to the daily routines within. Broad shared areas provide a sense of openness, and smaller recesses create places where a child can settle close to a story. The scale shifts gently between the communal and the personal.

In the library, stepped seating and house-shaped shelves turn reading into an inviting landscape. The creative areas display materials with an appealing sense of abundance, while classrooms use low furniture and orderly storage to make their activities legible. This attention continues into the washrooms, where low basins, circular mirrors and planting bring familiarity and care to an essential part of the day.

Across the project, the atmosphere remains coherent without becoming uniform. Open space allows movement and discovery; smaller settings offer reassurance. The result is a kindergarten shaped around the pleasures of early childhood, where learning feels woven into a world of recognisable forms, warm materials and places worth exploring.
